JAKE MCCALL ART
INTRODUCTION
Hello, welcome to the site
3 years ago, having run my own global innovation company for 15 years, I took a week’s intensive course in portrait drawing, and within a year had folded the company to do art full time
Ostensibly this was my first encounter with art although:
- as a kid I spent most weekends roaming round Liverpool Docks and drawing boats, and didn't realise how important boats and water must have been, and how much I'd missed them, until many years later
- almost 50 years ago I wanted to buy my (first) wife an African mask, couldn’t afford it, so bought some balsa wood and carved one This began a 30 year sculpting hobby working in wood and papier mache, with a few bronzes thrown in, probably shaping my fascination for simple line
The first year in this new art life was spent studying bodies, in every life drawing session possible, working mostly in charcoal, the next year in pastels but still into figures, faces, hands and feet (far more fascinating than most people give them credit for)
And then on to watercolour, beginning to focus on boats, water and reflections, with the occasional foray into landscape and portrait

For the moment I'm content 'just' to try to capture what's there, but over time a more idiosyncratic or impressionist style may emerge.....we'll see
Hope you enjoy the work. Lots more to come
